Doctors speak against TSA security measures
For many traveling Americans, the September 11 terrorist attacks are still a big concern, which has led the Transportation Security Administration to adopt new procedures to ensure the safety of passengers on commercial vehicles.
However, the organization recently came under fire for an intensified pat down check for travelers who opt not to undergo the full body scan. This has caused some embarrassment for individuals with medical conditions, who are often forced to explain their illnesses or abnormalities to TSA agents.
While the TSA maintains that everything is done for safety, several doctors have recently criticized the organization’s safety measures.
“You can imagine during a pat down, you’re feeling this piece of metal under somebody’s skin. If you don’t know what it is, then it’s going to create a lot of problems for people,” Dr. Gina Villani told CNN. “It’s just one more reminder of how different you are from the rest of the population.”
The TSA was further scrutinized earlier this week when the group announced that some politicians and other airport staff are excluded from the controversial screenings. ABC News reports that the TSA would not name who specifically can skip the pat downs and body scans.
