Sandra Bullock’s Oscar Awards Acceptance Speech

Sandra Bullock’s spectacular interpretation of the true-to-life character Leigh Ann Tuohy in The Blind Side gave the actress her first Oscar Award. The 45-year old Arlington, Virginia native charmed the crowd during the red carpet ceremonies, and even more when she accepted her award onstage. Many considered Sandra’s acceptance speech as the evening’s best.

In her speech, the actress shared her wit and brought smiles to the faces of the audience. “Did I finally wear all of you down, or did I really earn the award deservingly?” she said jokingly.

Sandra Bullock praised her fellow contenders for the best actress category. She also shared a joke or two with the audience, such as referring to her and Meryl Streep’s kiss during the Critics’ Choice Awards in January, where they shared the best actress award. Bullock even called Streep her “lover” and a “great kisser.”

She also included George Clooney in her playful gag by telling the audience that Clooney had “drowned her in a pool sometime in the past.”

On a more serious note, she thanked the cast and crew of The Blind Side and the mothers who take care of their children. The highlight of her speech, though, was when she thanked her late mother “for not letting me ride in cars with boys until I was 18, because she was right. I would have done what she said I was gonna do.”

The Blind Side is a movie that centers on the Tuohy family’s adoption of NFL’s Michael Oher. Leigh Ann, her husband and Michael were in the audience and witnessed Bullock’s winning moment.

In the 1990s, Bullock rose to fame after portraying roles in successful films such as Speed, While You Were Sleeping, and later on, Miss Congeniality 1 & 2 and the critically acclaimed Crash. In 2007, she was recognized as the 14th richest female celebrity with an estimated fortune of $85 million.
