Conan O’Brien beats out competition in debut on TBS
On Monday night, talk show host Conan O’Brien made his return to television on the cable network TBS. Slashfilm reports O’Brien’s new show beat out all of his competitors and was the top-ranked talk show on November 8th.
More than 4.1 million Americans tuned in to see O’Brien for the first time since he left NBC earlier this year. The show was especially popular among the highly coveted 18- to 34-year-old demographic, with 2.4 million watching his 11 p.m. debut.
O’Brien’s new show beat out several other late night notables, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which reached 3.5 million viewers, and The Late Show with David Letterman, which had an audience of 3.4 million. He also came out on top of both The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert.
The talk show’s numbers shouldn’t be surprising, though, as O’Brien’s return was a highly anticipated event.
O’Brien left NBC, where he hosted The Tonight Show, in January after scheduling conflicts arose with Jay Leno’s program. The company wished to delay O’Brien’s show by a half hour, which O’Brien declined to do.
